Changing Files and Folders to Read/Write in Mac OSX

The Problem:  Optical media, like CDs and DVDs, are read-only formats so when the operating system receives files from these disks the files are Read-Only and that attribute sticks, even once they're on your hard drive.

The Solution:  You need to change the Read-Only attribute to Read-Write.  Here's how:

Create a folder on your hard drive for your photos. In this example, I called the folder DigMyPics Photos.  Copy the photos from your CD or DVD to the new folder.

After the files have finished copying, select the folder right click and select Get Info. ( or on the menu, choose  File | Get Info )

A new dialog box will appear.  At the bottom of that box is section called Sharing and Permisions:

Click each user listed and select Read & Write.
You may need to click on the lock to Unlock. OSX will request your password.

Then click on the cog at the botton and select Apply to enclosed items...

OSX will ask you to confirm the action.  Click Yes.

You're done!
