MAC - Ripping and burning DVDs

After opening VLC, put your DVD in your Mac. If it pops up to play the DVD, simply hit escape so you can get to the VLC screen showing you the playlist.

Once on this playlist screen, click "File" at the top of your Mac screen and select "Convert/Stream". Drag and drop the DVD from your desktop into the area titled "Drop media here".

Next you can choose a profile. The first one to show up will more than likely be "Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4)". This is fine to use, however click on the button titled "Customize..." Click "Capsulation" at the top of the new window and make sure MP4/MOV is selected. Next click "Video codec" at the top of the window which is next to "Encapsulation". Make sure H.264 is selected and then click "Apply" at the bottom right of this window.

The final step is the choose the destination where you would like the file of the DVD on your Mac. For testing purposes, I suggest try saving it to your desktop. You can name the file anything you'd like and then click "Save". Your new file should be created quickly.

Please note, if your file saves as an .m4v rather than an .mp4 or .mov, iMovie will more than likely not use it as this is considered a copyright protected strain of .mp4.
