DigMyPics! DVD Frequently Asked Questions |

What
is a DVD? |
|
A DVD is an optical disk
that can store data. It's just like a CD but with more storage
capacity. DVD's have become a staple of the movie industry but
they aren't just for movies. When CDs first arrived on the market,
they were synonymous with music but quickly migrated to computers
and data storage. DVDs are currently experiencing the same
migration that CDs went through 10 years ago. When refer to
storing your images on a DVD, we're talking about just storing the
JPEG or TIFF files on the disc. We can also make a movie using your
images and your music, but that involves more work and additional
charges. |

If I
have my images scanned and order them on a DVD will I be able to
play them on my DVD player? |
|
The answer to this depends
on several things but mostly it depends on whether or not you
ordered a DVD Movie or just
ordered scanning. A DVD Movie is an actual movie with music,
video effects and transitions between the images. If
you didn't order a DVD Movie you may still be able to watch the
images on your TV using a Reduced Resolution disk and a JPEG compatible DVD player. Most DVD
players that are currently shipping will include this feature but
not all players are the same. These players will allow you to
insert a CD or DVD and they will cycle through the images one by one
much like your computer can do a slide show screen saver. |

My
DVD player says its JPEG compatible. Will it work with the CDs and
DVDs you send me? |
|
Most likely, but not
always. Unfortunately, not all DVD players are the same and there
are no standards. Every manufacturer has chosen a different way to
implement their JPEG compatibility features. While all of them can
read a JPEG file, some have implemented the feature with
limitations. Some can't display large files or will only recognize
a limited number of images per folder or disc.
If you're planning to purchase a DVD player that supports this
technology, please make sure you can return it to the store if you
find it has implemented limits that don't meet your needs. |
