Please spend a moment to read about how we got started or jump below
to learn about our Team Leadership.
An open letter from one of our
founders:
My wife Annette and I are both avid picture takers but I'm the
gadget hound in the family. I started moving us to digital
photography as soon as the first generation of digital cameras
arrived. We quickly started amassing a significant number of
digital photos but we were left with a large collection of "legacy"
photos of our own as well as some others that we had inherited from
our parents. We were finding more and more ways to enjoy our
digital photos but all of our old legacy photos were stuffed in
boxes and buried in the closet under old shoes and clothes we'd been
meaning to donate. They needed be digitized if we were ever going to
see them again and it was going to be a daunting task.
I had made a career out of building and launching software systems
for several dot coms during the boom years and Annette had built her
career running sales and marketing for a publicly held company in
Massachusetts. We wondered if we could combine our passions
for software, business management, and digital photography to create
a company that would help us and other families like us enjoy their
old photos again.
We founded DigMyPics.com in 2002 and began building the technologies
needed to make it a reality. We invested nearly a million
dollars in designing and building the systems and in buying and
testing every type of scanner we thought might work for us. We
had 2 simple goals. Provide a quality scan equal to the best
scanners available while keeping the prices low. We bought
every different kind of scanner on the market ranging in price from
just a few hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars trying to
find the best quality and the best speed. We quickly learned that
the fast scanners gave poor results and the high quality scanners
were very slow. To solve the problem we needed to take a
different tact. We needed to develop a lot of new software and
hardware to help us attain our goals of both speed and quality.
While some of our scanners are off-the-shelf, much of what we use
here is modified and custom to us and is not available anywhere else. We
continue to refine our processes but we're committed to increase
speed and volume only when it doesn't negatively impact the
quality of the final product.
We understand that sending your photos off to some faceless company
you've never heard of can be scary so we want you to get to know us.
Please read about who we are and if you have any questions or
comments please don't hesitate to call or write. Annette and I
continue to be very much involved in the day to day operations and
we're looking forward to helping you and your family enjoy your old
photos again.
